A verandah of width 3 m is constructed all along outside a room which is 6 m long and 5 m wide.

Find:
(a) the area of the verandah.
(b) the cost of cementing the floor of the verandah at the rate of rs.205 per m2.​

Area of verandah = 102m² and,  cost of cementing = ₹209.1

Step-by-step explanation:

Given: Length of room = 6m

Width of room = 5m

Width of verandah which is constructed all along outside of room = 3m,

Cost of cementing of verandah = ₹2.05/m²

∴ Length of room with verandah= 6m + 3m + 3m = 12m

Width of room with verandah= 5m + 3m + 3m =11m

Area of room = Length × Width

                      = 6m × 5m

                      = 30m²

Area of room with verandah = Length × Width

                                               = 12m × 11m

                                               = 132m²

Area of verandah = Area of room with verandah − Area of room

                             = 132m² - 30m²

                             = 102m²

Cost of cementing of verandah = Area × Rate

                                                    = 102m² × ₹2.05/m²

                                                    = ₹209.1

∴ Area of verandah = 102m² and,  cost of cementing = ₹209.1.
