A vernier caliper have 20 divisions on vernier scale and its M.S.D is 0.5 mm. When a hollow cylinder is held by its internal jaws the M.S.R and V.C.D of calipers are 1.2 cm and 10 respectively. Find the radius of cross-section of the cylinder

Radius of cross section = 0.6025 cm

Explanation:

Radius of cross section = [ (MSR * VCD) + MSD ] / Number of divisions

Where MSR is the main scale reading, VCD is the vernier caliper division and MSD is the main scale division.

Radius = [(1.2 * 10) + 0.05] / 20

Radius    = 0.6025 cm

Vernier calipers are instruments used mainly to measure linear dimensions of circular objects.
