Step-by-step explanation:

Given

A vertical cylindrical container of base area a and upper cross section area a1 making an angle 30 degree with the horizontal is placed   in an open rainy field as shown near another cylindrical container having same base area a.Find the ratio of rates of collection of water in the two containers.

  • We know that A is cross sectional area perpendicular to the rain, v is the velocity of rain
  • So A2 = A1 cos 30 and A3 = A cos 60
  • So A1 = A / cos 30
  • So A2 = A / cos 30 x cos 30
  •           = A
  • Now A3 = A / 2
  • So Q2 / Q1 = A2 V / A3 V
  •                 = A / A / 2
  •              = 2 : 1

So the ratio of rates of collection of water in the two containers is 2: 1
