Given:

a vertical stick 1.8 m long cast a shadow 45 cm long on the ground at the same time

To Find:

what is the length of the shadow of a pole 6m high

Solution:

Before solving this question we should the basic idea that the angle of the shadow end and pole end or tan of the shadow will remain the same for all the objects under the sun at that time, so using tan for 1st case we have

tan\theta =\frac{1.8}{45} \\

now this tan theta will also be equal for the pole with a height of 6m then we can again say that( let the shadow length be x)

tan\theta =\frac{6}{x}\\

Now we can equate both values and find the value of x,

\frac{1.8}{45} =\frac{6}{x} \\x=150m

Hence, the length of the shadow of the 6m pole is 150m.
