A very large number of balls are thrown vertically upwards in quick succession in such a way that the next ball is thrown when the previous one is at the maximum height. If the maximum height is 5m, then the number of balls thrown per minute is (take g = 10 m/s^2)

Answer:

60 balls per minute

Explanation:

max h = 5m

final v = 0

let initial vel = u

v² = u² - 2gh (replacing a with -g)

0 =  u² - 2 x 10 x 5

u² = 100

∴ u = 10 ms⁻¹

Now,

v = u - gt (replacing a with -g)

0 = 10 - 10 x t

t = 1 sec

time taken by each ball to reach the max height = 1 sec

conversely,

number of balls thrown in 1 sec = 1

number of balls thrown in 1 min or 60 sec = 60 x 1 = 60 balls
