A vessel containing 9 litres of an ideal gas at 760 mm pressure is connected to an evacuated 9 litre vessel. What is the resultant pressure?

║⊕ANSWER⊕║

By ideal gas equation, PV = nRT

GIVEN

T is constant

We observe that n α PV

Number of moles depend on mass so number of moles will remain conserved

So, product PV will remain conserved as it is proportional to "n"

P₁V₁ = P₂V₂

here, P₁ = 760

V₁ = 9 L

V₂  = 9 + 9 = 18 L

=> P₂ = 380 mm of mercury
