Step-by-step explanation:

let's be the mixture= x

then.... milk's ratio=3×x=3x

and..... water's. "=8×x=8x

if milk's quantity is 40.5L.

then. 3x=40.5

x=40.5/3= 13.5L

so now water's quantity= 8×13.5= 108L

3x+8x=?

so 40.5+108=148.5L.

taken out mixture= 3x+8x-2(1/4)

=148.5-2/4

= 148

now new mixture= 148L.

and the ratio of milk and water=3:8

then.... new quantity= 3x+8x=148

11x=148

x=148/11=13.45

so new quantity of water =8x....=8×13.45=10.72L.
