A vessel of 5 liters capacity contains 7g of n2 and 2g of ch4 at 27 c . calculate the partial pressure of each gas and also the total pressure in the vessel

x(n2) =  n(n2)/n(n2)+n(ch4) = 1/4)/1/4+1/8  =  2/3 = 0.67

x(ch4) = 1 -0.67 = 0.33

n(total) =  1/4+1/8 =3/8

P(total) = nrt/V =  3/8*0.083*300/5 = 1.86atm

p(n2)  = x(n2) p(total) =     0.67*1.86 =  1.25atm

p(ch4) =  p(total) -  p(n2)  =  1.86 - 1.25 = 0.61 atm
