A village having a population of 4000 requires 150 litres of water per head per day. Due to lack of sources of water, they collect the water into a tank measuring 2000cm×15m×16m from a river using a long pipe.
(a) find for how many days will the water of this tank last?
(b) which message is conveyed by the people of village?

Daily need of water = 4000 x 150
= 600000liters
But we need it in m^3..so,
600000/1000 = 600m^3

Amount of water in tank = 20 x 15 x 16 =4800

Number of days = Amount of water / Daily need

= 4800 / 600
= 8 days

B)The message conveyed by the people of this village is there are no water for them to use..Remaining water will be finished in 8 days.So they require more water.

Water required for 1 person = 15 litres

Water required for 4000 persons
= 4000×150
= 600000 litres

Length = 2000cm = 20 metres

Breadth = b = 15 metres

Height = h = 16 metres

Volume of tank = lbh
= 20×15×16
= 4800m³

1m³= 1000litres

4800 m³= 4800000 litres

No: of days water will last = Volume of tank ÷ Volume of water required by 4000 people
= 4800000 ÷ 600000
= 8 days
So, tank will last for 8 days.
