Skeletal muscle is one of three major muscle types, the others being cardiac muscle andsmooth muscle. It is a form of striated muscle tissue which is under the voluntary control of the somatic nervous system.[1] Most skeletal muscles are attached to bones by bundles ofcollagen fibers known as tendons.

CHARACTERISTICS:

1. They show alternate light and dark bands called striations when viewed under a microscope.
