Given : A wallet contains a 20 peso bill, a 50 peso bill, and a 100 peso bill.

A bill is taken out from the wallet and then replaced with a bill of the same amount that was taken away

a bill is taken out from the wallet again

To Find : probability that the sum of the bills is

70 peso bill

Not 70

More than 40

Solution:

20 peso bill, a 50 peso bill, and a 100 peso bill.

3  bills

Total ways of getting bills = 3 x3 = 9

( 20 , 20) , ( 20 , 50)  , (20  , 100)

(50 , 20) , ( 50 , 50) , (50 , 100)

(100 , 20 ) , (100 , 50) , (100 , 100)

Find Sum

= (40 , 70 , 120 , 70 , 100 , 150 , 120 , 150 , 200)

Arrange in order

= ( 40 , 70 , 70 , 100  , 120 , 120 , 150 , 150 , 200)

Probability sum of the bills is 70   =  2 / 9

Probability sum of the bills Not 70   =  1  - 2/9  = 7/9

More than 40  = 1  -   40

=  1  - 1/9

= 8/9

            20                      50                               100

              ↓                           ↓                                 ↓

20       50      100        20     50    100         20   50  100
