A washing tub in the shape of a frustum of a cone has height 21 cm. The radii of the circular top and bottom are 20 cm and 15 cm respectively. What is the capacity of the tub ? ( π = 22/7)

Step-by-step explanation:

If We extend it till a point then we can have two cones

Small cone with

height = x cm

radius = 15 cm

Larger cone

height = x + 21 cm

Radius = 20 cm

15/20 = x/(21+x)   (similar triangles)

=> 315 + 15x = 20x

=> x = 63

Volume of tub = volume of Larger cone  - Volume of Smaller cone

=> Volume of tun = (1/3)π20²(21 + 63) - (1/3)π15²*63

π = 22/7

=> Volume of bucket = 22 * 400*4   -   22*225*3

= 35200 - 14850

= 20350 cm³

= 20.35 Litre
