We know profit and loss is

always calculatedon Cost Price (CP)

X*112/100= 448

Therefore,X = 448*100/112

=> Rs 400

The CP of the watch is Rs 400

The Selling price is Rs 512

Profit = 512 - 400 = Rs 112

profit % = 112/400 * 100%

=> 28% profit

\mathfrak{Step-By-Step\:Explanation:}

\bold{In\:first\:Case:}

  • Selling Price = Rs. 448.
  • Rate = 12%.

\boxed{\bold{Cost\:price=SP\left(\dfrac{100}{100+p\%}\right).}}\\\\\\\tt{=448\times\dfrac{100}{112}}\\\\\\\tt{=Rs.400.}\\\\\\\bold{In\:2nd\:Case:}

  • CP = Rs. 400
  • SP = Rs. 512

Selling price is the greater than cost price .

\bold{Gain=SP-CP}\\\\\\\tt{=512-400}\\\\\\\tt{=112.}\\\\\\\boxed{\bold{Gain\%=\dfrac{gain\times100}{CP}}}\\\\\\\tt{=\dfrac{112\times 100}{400}}\\\\\\\tt{=28\%.}\\\\\\\boxed{\boxed{\bold{Gain\%=28\%.}}}
