A water heater marked 2kW, 220V is connected to a 220V supply. How long will it take to heat 20kg of water from 10°C to 30°C ?? Assume that all the heat is taken up by the water. ( Specific heat of water = 4200 J kg^-2 C^-2).

›-» Heat, H = msT

H = m × 4200 × T

H = 20 × 4200 × 20 = 168 × 10⁴ J

Electric energy consumed = power × time

168×10⁴= 2×10³× t

t = 168×10⁴/2×10³

= 840s

= 14min
