Given:

Weight of the block = 70N

To find:

The tension in the strings.

Solution:

Let the tension in the strings be T1 and T2 and the angle they make with the horizontal surface of the support be α and β respectively.

The equation of forces for the horizontal components will be:

T1 cosα =  T2 cosβ

T1 = T2 cos β/ cosα

Now, the equation of forces for the vertical components will be:

T1 sinα + T2 sinβ = mg

T2 sinα cosβ/ cosα + T2 sinβ = mg

T2((sinα cosβ/ cosα) + sinβ) = 700

T2 = 700/((sinα cosβ/ cosα) + sinβ)

T1 = T2 cosβ/ cosα

Therefore the tension can be found out by putting the value of angles in the equations.
