A well is to be dug with diameter 4m and depth 10m. Find the quantity of earth to be excavated, the earth taken out is spreads evenly all around to a width of 4m to form an embankment. Find the height of the embankment.​

the quantity of Earth excavated=volume volume of the well

= πr2h

= 22÷7×2×2×10

= 880÷7

Let the height of embankment= h m

it's internal radius (r) = 2m

external radius (R) = 2+4= 6m

now, the embankment is of the form of hollow cylinder...

volume of the embankment=volume of the well.

-- π(R2-r2)h = 880÷7

-- 22÷7 ( 6×6 - 2×2 ) h = 880÷7

-- 22÷7 × 32 × h = 880÷7

-- h = 880×7 ÷ 7×22×32

-- h = 1.25 m
