A wet handkerchief is placed on the forehead of a person suffering from high fever. help me find the reason for that in scientifically??..

in general a wet handkerchief is placed on the forehead of a person suffering from fever because by doing this we can degrade the temperature of the body to many extent i. e. bringing it into thermal equilibrium.But it helps in mild fever and according to me not for the high fever.
As it has been a practice since ancestral times that's why it has a great appreciation among the people. It can be said that it has scientific reason.
