a)atoms of different elements with different atomic numbers which have the same mass number are known as Isobars.
For example, consider two elements calcium and argon which have 20 and 18 as their atomic number respectively but they both have same mass number that is 40.
b) uses of isotopes:
(i) An isotope of uranium is ilused as a fuel in nucear reactors.
(ii) An isotope of cobalt is used in the treatment of cancer and an isotope of iodine is used in the treatment of goitre.
differences between isotope and Isobars:
1. isotopes have different mass numbers because they have different numbers of neutrons whereas Isobars have different atomic numbers because they have different numbers of protons.
2.Isotopes occur at the same place in periodic table whereas Isobars occur at different places in the Periodic Table.
