Explanation:

  • (a) When the hydrogen replaces the hydrogen in the acid by the metal, a salt is formed. Two of the salts are sodium chloride (NaCl) and ammonium chloride(NH4Cl). These salts are obtained from hydrochloric acid and ammonia.
  • (b) ‘A family of salts’ are said as the salts that have same positive ions. Examples are sodium sulphate and sodium chloride. These belongs to the family known as sodium salts.
  • (c) Hydrated salts are the salts having crystallisation water. Example, copper sulphate. Anhydrous salts are the salts that have lost water of crystallisation. Example, when copper sulphate crystals are heated, anhydrous copper sulphate is formed.
  • (d) Examples for hydrated salts are copper sulphate pentahydrate. It is blue in colour and has the formula,CuSO. 5H O; Iron sulphate heptahydrate salt. It is green in colour and has the chemical formula, FeSO_4 .7H_2 O.
  • (e) The colour becomes red.
