Explanation:

a) a compound of hydrogen and carbon, such as any of those which are the chief components of petroleum and natural gas.

b) The term HYDROCARBONS means organic compounds which contain only carbon and hydrogen. By using this definition, four classes of hydrocarbons are included: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes and aromatic. SATURATED means that each carbon is bonded to four other atoms through single covalent bonds.

c) Unlike saturated hydrocarbons in which all hydrogen atoms and carbon atoms are bonded together with single bonds, unsaturated hydrocarbons have double or even triple bonds between the carbon atoms. ... Alkenes - These unsaturated hydrocarbons are molecules that contain at least one carbon-to-carbon double bond.

Hope it helps you....

Explanation:

a) All carbon compounds having carbon and hydrogen are known as hydrocarbons. The saturated hydrocarbons having single bonds are called alkanes.

b) The term HYDROCARBONS means organic compounds which contain only carbon and hydrogen. By using this definition, four classes of hydrocarbons are included: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes and aromatic. SATURATED means that each carbon is bonded to four other atoms through single covalent bonds.

c) Saturated hydrocarbons: Hydrocarbons in which the carbon atoms are linked to each other by single bonds only are known as saturated hydrocarbons.

Unsaturated hydrocarbons: Hydrocarbons in which the carbon atoms are linked to each other by double (C=C) or triple (C≡C) bonds are known as unsaturated hydrocarbons.
