A. What is the difference between sodium atom and sodium ion? B you cannot holt a piece of na in your hand but you can eat na ions in nacl. Why?
Answers
An ion has a stable electronic configuration... it has a charge but it does not react easily. The sodium atom is a reducing agent as it is willing to lose an electron so it is very reactive and corrosive...it can cause burns on your skin. We can easy sodium ions as it is not as reactive as the sodium atom, and the concentration of the positive sodium atoms of not very high. Also the solution has chlorine ions which are negative in nature and since the sodium ions are positive, the overall solution is neutral.
Sodium atom is neutral whereas Sodium Ion is a charged specie with charge of +1 . The number of protons and electrons in Sodium Atom is same i.e {11} whereas the number of proton in Sodium Atom is {11} and it is more than the number of electron i.e {10} . The size of Sodium Ion is smaller than Sodium Atom
