(a) What is the dispersion of white light? What is the cause of such dispersion? Draw a diagram to show the dispersion of white light by a glass prism.
(b) A glass prism is able to produce a spectrum when white light passes through it but
a glass slab does not produce any spectrum. Explain why is it so?

Explanation:

Dispersion

The splitting of white light into it's constituent colors

Cause of dispersion:

Light rays of different colors travel at same speed in vaccum and air but in other medium it travel at different speed and bend at different angle which leads to the dispersion of light

Red light has the maximum wavelength where as Violet light has the minimum wave length. So in any medium red light travels the fastest and deviates the least while Violet light travels the slowest and deviates the maximum

MORE TO KNOW: wavelength is directly proportional to velocity and inversely proportional to deviation

b) In a glass slab, the opposite sides are parallel and therefore different colors emerge parallel to each other and are seen simultaneously. Therefore, dispersion doesn't occur in a glass slab

Hope this helps u!
