a) The carbon atom's most distinctive property is its capacity to combine itself, to form lengthy chains atom to atom. This self-combination property is helpful to us as it creates an exceptionally big amount of carbon compounds or organic compounds.

b) A giant molecule of carbon atoms is known as diamond. Each carbon atom in the diamond crystal is connected by powerful covalent bonds to four other carbon atoms. The four adjacent atoms are at a regular tetrahedron's four vertices. This rigid diamond structure makes it a very difficult material.

Graphite structure is very distinct from diamond structure. A graphite crystal comprises of carbon atom layers or carbon atom sheets, and weak Van der Waals forces hold these layers together. Graphite is a relatively smooth material because of this sheet-like structure.
