He observed that most of the a-particles passed straight from the gold foil indicating that most of the space inside the atom is empty.

Some of the a-particles deflected from small angles showing that the positive charge occupies very little space inside the atom.

One of every 12000 a-particles appeared to rebound, showing that all the positive mass of atom resides inside the nucleus.
