The site of fertilization of ovum is the Fallopian tube of the ovary.

The fertilized ovum develops into a baby in the Uterus of the mother.

Explanation:

In human beings, fertilization ( union of the sperm and ovum) takes place in the ampullary-isthmic junction of the oviduct (Fallopian tube).

  • The sperms travel from the vagina up the uterus to the fallopian tube assisted by the contraction of the uterus and the fallopian tubes.

After 30 hours of fertilization, the newly formed zygote slowly starts to travel down the fallopian tube towards the uterus.

  • After a few divisions, at the end of the fourth day, the embryo reaches the uterus.
  • After 7 days of fertilization, implantation ( attachment of the embryo to the uterine wall) occurs.
  • This is where the embryo will develop into a baby.

The place where the fertilisation of ovum occurs is the Fallopian tube.

The fertilised ovum gets developed into a baby in the mother's uterus or the womb.

The sperm that is released by the male partner into the vagina of a female travels and reaches the fallopian tube. Here, the ovum keeps waiting for its fertilization. Only one sperm among all the millions sperms gets fused with the egg or the ovum.

This then results in forming a zygote and later on forms embryo and then foetus and after that forms a baby.
