A white metal X, when kept in water, reacts with it and starts to float. It is found naturally as its carbonate. It makes up our bones and teeth. With oxygen, it forms compound XO.
a. Identify the metal.
b. What will be observed when its oxide is tested with wet litmus paper?
c. Write an equation for the reaction of metal M with ferrous oxide.
d. Which gas is produced when carbonate of M is heated? Write the chemical equation.
i. How is this gas tested with limewater? Write the chemical equation also.
ii. Write the reaction that occurs when an excess of this gas is passed through limewater.
