Ans: Calcium oxide is the white powdered solid that produces a hissing sound when added to water. The reaction is exothermic in nature so that the heat releases with the release of sound on addition .Product formed is Calcium hydroxide [ Ca(OH)₂]         CaO + H₂O → Ca(OH)₂
