X is Plaster of Paris or Calcium Hemihydrate (CaSO4.1/2H2O).

Y is Water(H2O).

On adding Y to X, X hardens to form a solid mass called Gypsum or Calcium Dihydrate(CaSO4.2H2O).

Reaction:

CaSO4.1/2H2O + 3/2H2O -> CaSO4.2H2O.
