A wholesaler allow discount of 20% on the list price of an article to a retailer. the retailer sells it at 5% discount on the list price. if the customer pays Rs 38 for the article, what profit is made by the retailer​

So, the retailer bought it from the wholesaler at (100−20)=80 % of x=Rs.0.8x

And the retailer sold it at (100−5)=95 % of x=Rs.0.95x

Given, 0.95x=Rs114

=>x=Rs120

So, for the retailer,

C.P..=Rs0.8x=Rs.0.8×120=Rs96

And given SP=Rs.114

=>Profit=S.P.−C.P.=Rs.114−Rs.96=Rs.18

Hence, profit % =
