A wholesaler bought dragonfruits and rambutans, the price of dragonfruits per kg being thrice that of rambutans per kg. He then sold 9 kg of rambutans at a profit of 10% and 18 kg of dragonfruits at a profit of 22% to a shopkeeper. However, the shopkeeper lost 6 kg of dragonfruits and 3 kg of rambutans in transit. He then mixed the remaining fruits and sold the mixture at Rs. 170 per kg, thus making an overall profit of 25%. At what price, in Rs. per kg did the wholesaler buy the Dragon fruit

Solution :-

Let us assume that, the wholesaler bought the rambutans at Rs.x / kg.

so,

→ Price of dragonfruits = Rs. 3x / kg.

now,

→ CP of 9 kg of rambutans = 9 * x = Rs.9x

→ profit = 10%

→ SP = {CP * (100 + profit%)} / 100 = (9x * 110)/100 = Rs.9.9x

and,

→ CP of 18 kg of dragonfruits = 18 * 3x = Rs.54x

→ profit = 22%

→ SP = {CP * (100 + profit%)} / 100 = (54x * 122)/100 = Rs.65.88x

then,

→ Total SP = Total CP for shopkeeper = 9.9x + 65.88x = Rs. 75.78x .

now, given that, the shopkeeper lost 6 kg of dragonfruits and 3 kg of rambutans in transit.

so,

→ Left fruits = (18 - 6) + (9 - 3) = 12 + 6 = 18 kg .

then,

→ Total SP of mixture = 170 * 18 = Rs.3060 .

A/q,

→ 75.78x * (125/100) = 3060

→ 75.78x * 5 = 3060 * 4

→ 378.9x = 12240

→ x = Rs.32.30

therefore,

→ CP of per kg Dragon fruit = 3x = 32.3 * 3 ≈ Rs.97 (Ans.)
