quantitative analysis grp analysis is mainly based on solubility product and common ion effect.
A salt is precipitated if its ionic product exceeds solubility product.
NH4Cl is added before NH4OH because the strong electrolyte suppresses the ionization of weak electrolyte NH4OH. Other wise if NH4OH is more oxidised higher grps may precipitate in 3rd grp. That is why this is done.
