A window is 60 feet above the ground. A man places a ladder 11 feet from the wall, and finds that it exactly reaches the window. How many feet is the length of the ladder

We get,

WY² = WX² + XY²

From the question

WX = 60 ft

XY = 11 ft

WY = ?

Substituting the values in the above expression:

WY² = 60² + 11²

        = 3600 + 121

         = 3721

WY  = √3721

       = 61

Hence, length of the ladder = 61 feet
