AB is a vertical pole of height AB = 18m
AC is a wire of length AC = 24 m
from the diagram
∆ABC is a right angled triangle at "B"
By Pythagoras theorem
AC² = AB² + BC²
AC² - AB² = BC²
( 24 )² - ( 18 )² = BC²
576 - 324 = BC²
252 = BC²
BC = √352
BC = √2 × 2 × 3 × 3 × 7
BC = 2 × 3 √7
BC = 6√7
The distance = 6.√7m
