A wire is in the shape of a rectangle. Its length is 30 cm and breadth is 16 cm. If the same wire is rebent in the shape of a square, what will be the measure of each side. Also find which shape encloses more area?

The total length of wire, or the perimeter = 2(30+16)
                                                                 = 92cm.

Divide that by four, and we get the length of each side

therefore, length of each side = 92/4
                                                =23cm.

To compare areas,

area of rectangle = base x height
                            =30 x 16
                            = 480cm^{2}

and area of square = side square
                               = 23^{2}
                               = 529 cm^{2}

Therefore, the square shape covers more area than the rectangle shape
