Given :

  • Wire is in shape of square of side 10cm
  • The same wire is rebent into rectangle of length 12xm

To find :

  • Breadth of new rectangle formed

Procedure :

  • Firstly find perimeter of square, this will give us length of wire
  • The perimeter of rectangle will be equal to perimeter of square , as length of wire is same

Formula used :

  • Perimeter of square = 4×side
  • Perimeter of rectangle = 2(length + breadth)

Solution :

Perimeter of square = 4×10 = 40cm

as perimeter of square = perimeter of rectangle

therefore, Perimeter of rectangle = 40cm

Perimeter of rectangle = 2×(length+ breadth)

=> 40 = 2×(12+breadth)

=> (40/2) = (12+ breadth)

=> 20 = 12 + breadth

=> breadth = 20-12

=> breadth = 8cm

ANSWER : breadth = 8cm
