A wire of length 32 cm is bent in to a rectangle can the diagonal of the rectangle be equal to 8 cm why

Perimeter = 32 cm

Let the sides be = x, y cm

If diagonal = 8 cm:-

x² + y² = 8 {By Pythagoras Theorem}

Also, since perimeter = 32 cm:-

2(x + y) = 32

→ x + y = 16

But, this isn't possible. As, the sum of squares is less than the sum of original numbers.

So, the diagonal can't be equal to 8 cm
