(a) Suppose a parallel light-ray beam falls on a convex lens, and it can be seen in the diagram.

  • These rays of light are parallel to each other and even to the lens axis.
  • The ray's incident passes via the convex lens and are refracted by refraction rules. After traversing the convex lens, to the other side of the lens all the rays intersect, at the same position F.
  • Point F is termed the convex lens principal focus. Thus the convergence point for the parallel beam of that light rays to an one single point is called the lens focus

 (b) A convex lens has a real focus because all the light rays will pass via the focus.

(c) The following are some things a convex lens and a concave lens have in common:

  • A continuous beam of light rays converges both to a single point called the target.
  • Both form images of an object, real and inverted, except in one case.
  • For a concave lens, both form a true, upright, and magnified image if the object is positioned between the pole and focus of a convex mirror, and between the center of the lens and focus.
