Answer:

  • Solar cookers work, basically, by concentrating solar energy using a mirror or a reflective surface, to increase its power, then conveting that light into heat, using black materials.
  • Solar cooker are covered with glass sheets because it easily traps sunlight and moreover it doesn't allow the heat to get escaped..

Explanation:

(a) Construction :-

  • Box - It is basically made up of wood or any insulating material and painted black to absorb more heat.
  • Glass cover - Two glass sheets held together on aluminum frame
  • Plane mirror reflector - This mirror is so placed to reflect more sunlight
  • Cooking container - Container to place food

Working :-

The solar cooker is placed at sunlight and reflector is adjusted in such a way that maximum light can fall on it, the food is being cooked in the container. Black surface absorb heat and does not allow to escape it from the box which result in rise in temperature of box.

(b) Black body or color is a good heat absorbent. Hence if the solar cooker is painted black it can absorb more heat and also keep it does not allow to escape outside.

(c) When sunlight passes through the glass and hits the black colored surfaces, the radiation is turned into heat and these radiations are not allowed to escape from the glass plates. So it helps in managing the temperature inside the solar cooker high.
