Solution -

Let the present age of son be x yrs

So, the present age of woman be 3x yrs

Son's age 5 years ago = (x - 5) yrs

Woman's age 5 years ago = (3x - 5) yrs

According to Question,

(3x - 5) = 4(x - 5)

⇒ 3x - 5 = 4x - 20

⇒ 3x - 4x = - 20 + 5

 [ ∵ By transposition ]

⇒ - x = - 15

⇒ x = 15

Required Ages -

Son's age = x = 15 yrs

Woman's age = 3x = 3(15) = 45 yrs

∴ The present age of son is 15 years and the present age of woman is 45 years
