A worker was put on some job for 50days on the condition that he would get Rs50 for each day, he worked and would be fined Rs5 for each day,he remained absent.If he got Rs740 in all,for how many days,he was absent?

let the no. of days he remained present be X and the no. of days he remained absent be y
X+y=50 (equation 1)
the amount of money he was given for the days he was present =50x
the amount of money he would be fined =5y
According to question, 50x-5y=740(equation 2)
solving equation 1 and 2 we get
x=18,y=32
