hello there
a plant grows due to the presence of a plant hirmone called auxin. auxin hormone concentrates in shady areas. when a plant is exposed to light in only one direction, the auxins concentrate in the shady part of the stem, resulting in greater growth of the shady area and bending of plant towards sunlight.
similarly, in roots, the auxins lead to the root growth away from the source of sunlight.
hope this helps :)
