A zinc plate was put into a solution of copper sulphate kept in a glass container. It was found that one
colour of the solution gets fader and fader with the passage of time. After few days when zinc plate was
taken out of the solution, a number of holes were observed on it.
1) State the reason for changes observed on the zinc plate.
ii) Write the chemical equation for the reaction involved.

1) The reason for the holes is that the zinc reacts with copper sulphate to form zinc sulphate, a colorless solution, and the displaced copper settles down as precipitate.
So, the zinc plate gets holes in it from where the zinc ions leave to combine with the sulphate ions.
2) Zn(s) +CuSO4(aq) =====Cu(s) +ZnSO4(aq)
