A box contains x 50-paise coins, 2x one-rupee coins and 3x two-rupee coins. If the total value of these coins is Rupees 68, what is the value of x?

Number of 50 paise coins = x

number of 1 Rs coins = 2x

number of Rs 2 coins = 3x

Total value of the coins = Rs68

Rs1/2 × x + Rs1 × 2x + Rs2 × 3x =Rs 68

x /2 + 2x + 6x = 68

x /2 + 8x = 6

( x + 16x )/2 = 68

17x = 68 × 2

x = ( 68 × 2 ) / 17

x = 4 × 2

x = 8

The value of x = 8
