The combination is 3 pens, 4 pencils and 4 rubbers

GIVEN:- An eraser cost Rs. 1, a pencil cost Rs. 2, a pen costs Rs. 6 and the total rupees are 30

TO FIND:- How many different combinations of the item can he buy if he has to buy at least 1 quantity of each?

SOLUTION:-

If we'll take at least 1 pen then the remaining money will be

30 - 6 = 24

If we'll take at least 1 pencil then the remaining money will be

24 - 2 = 22

If we'll take at least 1 rubber then the remaining money will be

22 - 1 = 21

For making it an even number we'll buy 1 more rubber

21 -1 = 20

If we'll take 1 more pen then the remaining money will be

20 - 6 = 14

If we'll take 1 more pencil then the remaining money will be

14 - 2 = 12

If we'll take 1 more rubber then the remaining money will be

12 - 1 = 11

If we'll take 1 more pen then the remaining money will be

11 - 6 = 5

If we'll take 1 more pencil then the remaining money will be

5 - 2 = 3

If we'll take 1 more rubber then the remaining money will be

3 - 1 = 2

We can't buy a pencil with the amount so will buy a pencil

2 - 2 = 0

By observing, the combination is 3 pens, 4 pencils and 4 rubbers

(3 \times 6) + (4 \times 2) + (4 \times 1) \\ = 18 + 8 + 4 \\ = 18 + 12 \\ = 30

Hence, the combination is 3 pens, 4 pencils and 4 rubbers
