In ∆ ABC,

According to the Pythagoras theorem,

 {AB}^{2} = {AC}^{2} + {BC}^{2}
Also, it is given that ∆ ABC is an isosceles triangle.
So, AB = AC

SO,

 {AB}^{2} = {AC}^{2} + {AC}^{2} \\ = > {AC}^{2} = 2 {AC}^{2}
