Given

  • AB = AC = 10cm
  • BC = 12cm
  • AN ⊥ BC

To Calculate

  • Altitude of triangle

Solution

BC = BN + NC , BN = NC

BC/2 = 12/ 6 = BN = NC

In △ANB

AB = 10cm

BN = 6cm

By Pythagorous Theorem,

 \bf Hypotenuse {}^{2}  = Base  {}^{2} + Altitude  {}^{2}

 \bf \implies  {10}^{2}  =  {6}^{2}  +  {Altitude}^{2}

 \bf \implies 100 = 36 +   {Altitude}^{2}

 \bf \implies 100 - 36 =   {Altitude}^{2}

 \bf \implies    {Altitude}^{2} = 64

 \bf \implies    {Altitude}^{2} =  \sqrt{64}

 \bf \implies  {Altitude}  = 8cm

Therefore, Altitude of triangle is 8cm.
