Step-by-step explanation:

y = 5 cm as diagonals bisect each other

z = 3.5 cm as diagonals bisect each other

in ∆ AED, angle E = 90°

AD^2 = AE^2 + DE^2 ...... by Pythagoras theorum

= 5^2 + 3.5^2

= 25 + 12.25

= 37.25

AD = √37.25
