Radius = 12 cm (Given)

Find the diameter of the circle:

Diameter = Radius x 2

Diameter = 12 x 2 = 24 cm

Define x:

Let the length of the side of the square be x

Find the length of the side of the square:

Diagonal of the square = diameter of the square

a² + b² = c²

x² + x² = 24²

2x² = 576

x² = 288

x = √288

Find the area of the square:

Area = Length x Length

Area = √288 x √288 = 288 cm²

Find the area of the circle:

Area of the circle = πr²

Area of the circle = π(12)² = 144π cm²

Find the area of the 4 shaded parts:

The difference of the area of the square and the circle give us 4 of the shaded part.

Area of the 4 shaded parts = 144π - 288 = 164.57 cm²

Find the area of the 8 shaded parts:

Area of the 8 shaded parts = 164.57 x 2 = 329.14 cm²

Answer: Shaded part = 329.14 cm²
