Types of Fungi. The 100,000 identified species of organisms commonly classed together as fungi are customarily divided into four phyla, or divisions: Zygomycota, Ascomycota, Basidiomycota, and Deuteromycota.
Zygomycota

- ex. bread mold
- common name: Zygote Fungi 
- CC's - spore case shaped like a sphere and usually found on the top of a stalk

Ascomycota

- ex. yeast 
- common name: Sac Fungi
- CC's - spore case shaped like a sac, spore case called an Ascus, budding

Basidiomycota

- ex. pizza mushrooms
- common name: Club Fungi
- CC's - spore case shaped like a club, spore case called a Basidia

Deuteromycota

- ex. pennicillium, athlete's foot, ringworm
- common name: Imperfect Fungi
- CC's - has never been observed sexually reproducing
