Any substance which is added into food to reduce its nutritional content is called adultrent.Examples/sources are milk is often mixed with water.
Water is an adulterent.
Brick dust is added to chilli powder.
Adulteration is of two types one is that which is done accidentaly.
other is which is done by own to earn profit.
Adulteration causes digestion problems.

Adulterants are substances found in beverages,food,fuel,etc.This are mixed to the expensive foods to make.This is however illegal.The process of addition of adulterants is called adulteration.
Diseases caused by the adulterants are as follows:
1)Brain damage
2)Anaemia
3)Insomnia
4)Constipation
5)Allergies 
6)Diarrhea,etc
